About the TEA
Qi Lan is renowned for its exceptionally floral fragrance, evoking the scent of rare orchids and exotic blooms. Its aroma transports you to the grand gardens of ancient Chinese nobility, which inspired our name: Empress’ Garden.
Qi Lan, or “Rare Orchid,” is a distinctive yet lesser-known Wuyi Yancha. This tea variety was introduced to the Wuyi Mountains from southern Fujian in the 1990s, where it flourished in the unique soil and climate of the region’s ecological reserve.
As part of the rock tea family, Qi Lan grows in mineral-rich, stony soils, giving it the characteristic mineral flavor common to most Yancha. The Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province are famed for their diverse and exceptional Yancha teas, which vary based on tea variety, processing techniques, oxidation levels, and roasting methods.
Qi Lan generally undergoes a low to medium oxidation process. Its preparation involves multiple low-heat baking sessions to preserve and accentuate the tea’s floral and fruity notes. Qi Lan has a distinct and bold aroma, with its orchid fragrance being both rich and enduring. The flavor is smooth, with a lingering aftertaste that stays with you long after your sip.
